Dragon Savers was established following the merger of Rhydyfelin credit union (registered December 1988), Cwm Taf Credit Union Limited June 1999 and 3 other credit unions in Rhondda Cynon Taff in October 2003.
The credit Union has since grown into a strong, independent, sustainable enterprise with a real community focus. In 2016 with members’ savings in excess of £2 million and loans worth around £1.6 million, Dragon Savers has been keen to build on its success to date by pushing membership growth, which had begun to slow down recently.
The new ATM has proven a successful way of attracting local people to the credit union who might not have used any of its services before. The credit union has always sought to canvas staff, volunteers and members before on new and ongoing issues. The credit union volunteer members and staff have over a number of years has received various awards at the International Edward Filene Credit Union and the Joe Biden Development Educator Awards.
Dragonsavers Credit Union received the royal seal of approval when HRHs The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall visited Treorchy in 2022.
